The LiveSeeding project has developed new features on the seeds4organic platform to enhance transparency, improve data exchange, and support better decision-making in the organic seed sector – and these features are now fully live.
A key addition is the Derogation Categories overview, which allows users to compare national species and subspecies categories. Users can, for example, filter to identify all Category 1 species for which no derogations are allowed due to sufficient organic availability. The tool also provides information on future re-categorisations, helping stakeholders anticipate regulatory changes and compare classifications across countries.
The Annual Reports section offers access to the yearly reports that EU Member States submit to the European Commission, on the availability of organic and in-conversion material, as well as granted derogations. As more countries and reporting years are added, this section will become an increasingly valuable resource, helping to identify trends – for example, cultivars with a high number of derogations, which may indicate strong demand for organic seeds.
Connections between the seeds4organic database and national systems have also been strengthened. During the project period, the Netherlands and Lithuania were integrated via organicXseeds at the end of 2023, enabling automated data exchange. For other countries not using organicXseeds as their national database, improved export functions allow authorities to use national data for their own systems or reporting to the European Commission.
Finally, enhanced cultivar description options let suppliers provide species-specific quality traits and upload documents or links to trial results and detailed descriptions, helping organic farmers make informed choices.
