On the 4th of July 2024, LiveSeeding partners IFOAM Organics Europe and FiBL Germany organized a learning exchange on organic seed databases, with examples from the national organic seed databases of Spain and Austria, the EU Router database and the OrganicXSeeds tool.
The aim of the meeting was to foster cross-country exchange between actors of EU-countries to increase transparency in the organic seed and breeding sector. It was attended by representatives of competent authorities, ministries of agriculture, control bodies, seed authorities, seed database managers, organic plant reproductive material (PRM) breeders and multipliers, and organic farming associations participated.
Miguel Vega García from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Food presented the national database ECOSID on the availability of organic and in-conversion plant reproductive material. Kaja Gutzen (FiBL Germany e.V.) gave a presentation on the national database OrganicXSeed tool and how it can be adapted to national needs. Angela Thüringer, AGES Austria, presented the organic seed and planting material database in Austria followed by Kaja Gutzen (FiBL Germany e.V.) giving a presentation on the European Router Database and planned new features that will be implemented within the LiveSeeding project.
