LiveSeeding project was presented to 19th Panhellenic Plant Breeders’ Congress organized by Hellenic Plant Breeders’ Scientific Society in Larisa (Greece) from 16th to 18th October 2024. An oral presentation by Dr. Kostas Koutis (AEGILOPS) addressed audience on the topic: Selection on soft wheat varieties and progress on adaptation of protocol tests for registration as organic varieties (Ovs) under the frame of LIVESEEDING. Additionally a LiveSeeding poster was presented under the title: Dynamic management of PGR as a source for organic breeding under LiveSeeding project dedicated to activities of T.1.1 partners. Both presentations followed a vivid interest and questions by audience and particularly breeders working already on organic breeding, breeding for organic or selecting from genetic resources for low input agriculture and adaptation to climate change.
As a result and follow up of LiveSeeding presence in 19th Panhellenic Plant Breeders’ Congress, an online meeting was organized on November 6th between Greek competent authority, interested breeders and LiveSeeding task leaders (Kostas Koutis, T.1.1) and Abco De Buck (T.2.2) with fruitful outcomes.
The 19th Hellenic Scientific Plant Breeders’ Congress was followed by more than 150 breeders, farmers, seed producers, students, agrifood chain stakeholders and policy makers and finished by the breeders’ Society excursion to the late Byzantine Monastery of St Jonh in Anatoli (Mt Kisavos) which holds a community seed bank and organizes regular seed exchange events.
