Let’s Liberate Diversity! Forum 2025 opens registration

Jun 4, 2025

We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Let’s Liberate Diversity! Forum 2025, co-organised by Let’s Liberate Diversity!, Lycée Technique Agricole (LTA), SEED Luxembourg, and LUGA.

Taking place from 4 to 6 September 2025 in Luxembourg, this major European gathering will bring together farmers, seed savers, researchers, policymakers, and activists for three days of rich exchange and learning dedicated to the future of seed systems, cultivated biodiversity, and food sovereignty.

Rich in the diversity of its members, partners, contributors, and attendees, the Let’s Liberate Diversity Forum is, above all, a unique platform that fosters the continuous exchange of ideas and the co-creation of knowledge.

LLD Forum 2023 in Dublin

A forum aligned with key political developments

Participants will gather around a set of urgent messages echoing ongoing legislative debates and developments at EU level:

  • Small-scale operators are the agrobiodiversity keepers. As part of the reform of the EU legislation on Plant Reproductive Material (PRM), it is crucial to secure ambitious exceptions from seed marketing rules for those engaged in the dynamic management of cultivated diversity. These actors do more than conserve diversity, their on-farm and in-garden seed selection and multiplication enable continuous adaptation to environmental change.
  • New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) threaten seed sovereignty. With the EU preparing to deregulate current GMO legislation, the removal of safety checks, labeling obligations, and the allowance of patents on NGT-derived seeds would expose agriculture and food systems to increased industrial consolidation and ecosystem risk.
  • Scaling up alternatives. In order to move beyond the niche, professional operators must be supported in using, multiplying, and promoting seeds adapted to their needs. This includes defending farmers’ rights to select and reproduce their own seed, while investing in micro-filières, small-scale, local supply chains that reinforce food sovereignty

Featuring LiveSeeding workshops and contributions

The programme will include several workshops linked to LiveSeeding project:

  • A session on city and regional food policy, drawing on outcomes from the 1st European Symposium on Cultivated Biodiversity in Cities (Granollers), will examine the role of local governments in supporting seed diversity and community seed systems.
  • A workshop on EU seed legislation will address how existing regulatory frameworks impact informal varieties, nano-enterprises, and small producers, and what legal changes are needed to create inclusive, biodiversity-friendly policies.
  • Technical workshops on plant health and seed quality, based on practical work within LiveSeeding, will focus on seed harvesting, storage and handling, and on improving the resilience of on-farm seed systems.

The forum will conclude with a final Conference and Diversity Fair entitled Farm to Fork – Seed to Plate: Regional Seeds and Varieties for the Future of Our Food, offering a space to reflect on the role of regional seed systems in Europe’s food future.

We warmly invite all interested actors to join this collective effort to shape the future of seeds and food systems in Europe.
