Milan, October 16, 2025. During the Global Forum of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP), held from 13 to 16 October in Milan under the theme “Building on a decade of joint success. Envisioning the future of urban food systems”, the Spanish Network of Agroecological Municipalities (Red de Municipios por la Agroecología-RMAe) and the European project LiveSeeding co-organised the session “Local Food System Transformation through Agroecology – Tools and Successful Cases from South America, Africa and Europe”, together with several international partners.

Granollers Manifesto on “Fostering Cultivated Biodiversity in European Municipalities”

In this session, María Carrascosa, from RMAe, presented the Granollers Manifesto: “Fostering Cultivated Biodiversity in European Municipalities”, the key outcome of the 1st European Symposium on Cultivated Biodiversity and Local Food Policies, held in Granollers (Spain) in April 2025.

The Manifesto proposes 32 practical actions to integrate into city-region food systems, especially local and traditional varieties, materials as a result of organic or participatory plant breeding, locally adapted cultivars, and open-source seed populations. It also includes policy, regulatory and financial recommendations aimed at regional, national and EU institutions to strengthen municipal action in this area.

During the session, Gilles Pérole, Deputy Mayor of Mouans-Sartoux (France), shared several initiatives implemented by the municipality to embed cultivated biodiversity into local public policies.
