On 25th of January 2023, Online Policy Conference “Pathways to create a level playing field in the European organic seed sector” was held. The conference gathered around 100 of different actors along the European organic seed and breeding supply chain, including policy makers, national and regional authorities, control bodies, seed authorities, seed associations, seed producers and traders, breeder, researcher, farmer associations and NGOs.
The main aim of the conference was to provide information, give practice examples and facilitate discussion on 3 main focus points:
- focus 1: role and importance of organic seed expert groups to achieve organic regulation target
- focus 2: increase transparency in the organic seed supply chain to create a level playing field
- focus 3: national roadmaps towards 100 % organic seed by 2036
At the end of the conference, the participants had the opportunity to discuss on some important issues and questions such as “How can we develop national roadmaps?” and “What are the next steps to develop national roadmaps towards 100 % organic seed use?”
Online Policy Conference is the first of three LIVESEEDING training modules. Other two modules, Online Training on the European Router Database (www.seeds4organic.eu) for EU Member State national authorities and Online Training on the European Router Database (www.seeds4organic.eu) for suppliers of organic seed and vegetative planting material, will be conducted in March 2023.
